National Rebuilding Month: Volunteer Home Repair Program

Every year Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country engage volunteers, sponsors, and staff during this month-long acknowledgement and celebration of home repair and housing preservation. At Rebuilding Together Houston, corporate sponsors rally volunteers to put the finishing touches on the homes we’ve restored throughout Harris County.

Thanks to all the volunteers who have finished their repairs and those who will work later this season, which really runs from February through May.

This spring, volunteers represent the following companies and organizations:

Association of General Contractors
bp America
ExxonMobil
Halliburton
HEB
Home Depot
Houston Methodist Hospital
Houston Rockets
Marble Capital
Port Houston

Bring the joy of a safe home to a family in need

While many of us view the future with hope and optimism, more than 119,000 low-income Harris County homeowners, including seniors, veterans, and working families with children, are living in unsafe homes. Hazards such as leaking roofs, active mold, no hot water, dangerous electrical systems, and holes in flooring increase these families’ health risks.

Anthony and Lafonda Pradia are one example. Mr. Pradia is a veteran of the U.S. Army, whose movement and income are hindered by a disability he sustained during his service.  Their house suffered damage in 2017 during Hurricane Harvey when a neighbor’s tree crashed through their roof. Since then, they have been living in sub-par housing conditions, unable to afford much needed repairs to this home that was built by his grandfather many decades ago.

Thanks to our integrated team of professional contractors, dedicated staff, and caring volunteers, the Pradias’ prayers were answered when they discovered our free home repair services in 2023. They are so grateful for our repairs so they can age in place in a safe and healthy home that they can be proud to pass on to the next generation.

Your gift can make the difference for neighbors living in homes that can be saved so 2024 will be safer, brighter, and more secure.
